PS5 Review: Dreams of Another

Is this a dream or a nightmare?

Dreams of Another is a third-person exploration-action game built around the theme, “There is no creation without destruction.” Rather than destroying objects by shooting – as in traditional shooting games – here, your shots materialize and rebuild the world. This unconventional mechanic offers a gameplay experience that challenges the norms of the genre and invites players into a whole new dimension. Uncover the thoughts, emotions, and secrets, piecing together the mysteries of this dreamlike world and navigate the liminal space between dreams and reality.

Dreams of Another is a bizarre game. It’s a third-person shooter where you shoot around you to create items, paths and memories instead of simply killing enemies. The pixel-art style has a unique charm to it that fits well within the structure of the game itself, but is it enough?

The story itself is impressive, while shooting to make things come to life is a nice change of pace from traditional shooters. The game itself is on the short side, but it definitely is memorable from beginning to end.

There is PSVR 2 support, but I was unable to test it as I lack a unit at the time of writing. The visuals are impressive with its art style, framerate is consistently smooth, and I didn’t encounter any glitches through my playthrough.

The Verdict

Dreams of Another is unique in its design and has an impressive art style, plus intriguing story that will entice you to play to the end.
