Is this a hangover you don’t want to wake up to?
Explore a surreal world with a drunken alpaca! Solve puzzles, fish out the most unusual items from rivers, fight watermelon thugs, and uncover all the secrets of this world!
Dreamout is a strange game. You play as a drunken alpaca in a game that takes its inspiration from traditional 2D Zelda games with its puzzles, combat, perspective and secrets scattered around. It obviously has a sense of humour to go along with it that goes well with the drunken alpaca and other interesting characters that you come across.
It’s a relatively short game with just 40 quests, but there’s a nice variety between them and the puzzles are nice, even if they can’t quite match the heights of classic Zelda in their design. They say imitation is the finest form of flattery and while Dreamout does well to put its own twist on things, it’s definitely taken a lot of inspiration from the Nintendo franchise.
The visuals are simplistic but have a nice art style to them. It does feel reminiscent of The Swords of Ditto while still having its own unique look. The music is pretty catchy and there was never any issue with performance or glitches during my playthrough.
The Verdict
Dreamout takes a lot from the likes of Zelda, but adds a drunken alpaca alongside some colourful characters to make a nice enjoyable adventure from beginning to end.
