PS5 Review: The House of Da Vinci

Can you solve Da Vinci’s puzzles?

Enter The House of Da Vinci, a new must-try 3D puzzle adventure game. Solve mechanical puzzles, discover hidden objects, escape from rooms and dive into the authentic atmosphere of the Renaissance. Use all your wits to find out what’s behind your master’s disappearance. You are Da Vinci’s most promising apprentice. Your master, Leonardo, has disappeared. You have no idea where he’s gone or what has happened. So, you begin your quest, your search for the truth. However, Leonardo’s workshop is full of puzzles, inventions, escape mechanisms and objects hidden in all corners of beautifully decorated rooms.

The original version of this game came out on iOS/Android back in 2017, while a VR version launched last December. There are also 2 other sequels that have launched alongside this on console now available, while there is also a version for PSVR2 that I was unable to test at the time of writing. It does feel a bit annoying that it wasn’t included as an optional mode in the game, but is instead a separate version entirely.

I’m only looking at the first game in the trilogy here but might go and get the others at some point. I was impressed with the puzzles here and while the mechanics sometimes became frustrating, I was still overly happy with my experience. The game isn’t the longest, but its definitely memorable and very well presented.

It may be a few years late to hit consoles, but they’ve done well to make it look good and accessible to a new audience. The controls are fairly simple to get to grips with and like I said, the puzzles are impressive. They’ve managed to capture the feel of the Renaissance era very well here. The visuals are decent, while the soundtrack is impressive too.

The Verdict

The House of Da Vinci makes its way to consoles and does it surprisingly well. Its puzzles are clever, the story is intriguing, and the overall presentation is impressive. I may just have to get the entire trilogy now…
