PS5 Review: Prison Alone

Can you escape this “empty” prison?

A psychological horror game with NO jumpscares. Feel the tension and suspense, get goosebumps, experience strange frightening events, and explore, look for keys, solve puzzles, while thinking hard to find a way to get out of this huge, and maybe not so empty prison.

Prison Alone does something a bit different than most horror games; it actually tells you in the text blurb that there are no jump scares and it definitely delivers that. I was worried by that I wouldn’t actually find it scary, but damn was I wrong…

The first-person horror game itself is short; there’s even a speedrunning trophy for completing the game in under 30 minutes. I wont spoil the psychological surprises that the game throws at you in that time frame, but you will definitely feel yourself becoming paranoid in the confines of the dark prison. There are puzzles to solve, collectibles and two endings to earn.

The visuals do the job and the framerate seems stable. The presentation is decent overall and I didn’t come across any glitches in my playthroughs.

The Verdict

Prison Alone may be brief, but its definitely a memorable experience with its focus on story-telling in a tense atmosphere instead of just hurling jump scares at you.
