PS5 Review: All You Need Is Help

Help, I need somebody!

Brought to you by Q-Games, the creators behind such classics as PixelJunk Monsters and PixelJunk Shooter, this innovative cooperative multiplayer game introduces a fresh new way to play with your friends. Dive into a quirky multiplayer co-op puzzle game where adorable, fluffy cube-shaped creatures collaborate to reach their goals. These creatures, each oddly shaped, jostle against each other to help solve puzzles together. When in trouble, shout “HELP!” and friends will surely come to your aid. With everyone’s strength, turn friendships into friend-shapes!

All You Need Is Help is a 4 player co-op game that you can also play with 2 players locally with each stick managing a different block shape. The objective is to work together to accomplish tasks such as pushing objects into holes and try and match the correct patterns within a time limit. You can’t rotate yourself so you’ll need to use the momentum of your allies to turn to the direction you need to be.

It’s harder than it sounds and can lead to a lot of arguing if you aren’t careful, but it is hilarious at the same time as you try and work together to accomplish your goals. You will always need to be a team of 4 though, so if you don’t have the numbers then you’ll need to try and connect to other lobbies by ringing the bell in your own lobby to reach 4 players online. I did also try it with 2 controllers with me and my partner, but it was way too chaotic to control two individual cubes at the same time, at least for us.

You can choose what challenges to play or choose to pick random ones. Completing them will net you coins that you can use to spruce up your living area or unlock new skins. I was impressed with the variety of the maps and the challenges that they posed. Lag didn’t seem to be too much of an issue, but I did notice the framerate drop a bit when playing online sometimes.

The visuals are cute and simple. The cube-shaped creatures are funny to look at and each level is unique in its design. The music is pretty annoying by design, but also slightly catchy in a frustrating way.

The Verdict

All You Need Is Help is a fun co-op puzzler that will have you squabbling amongst yourselves as the clock winds down. It has a nice variety of challenges and can be very addictive as you scramble to try and make the correct shape or try and get in the right direction.
