Should this simulator have stayed in the graveyard?
Dust off your torch and hammer – it’s time to get back to work, you have a new job to do. Visit the new beach coast with the largest, biggest ship graveyard in the world, dismantle huge ship parts and collect tons of precious steel. Roll up your sleeves, it’s time to get back to the business.
I never played the first Ship Graveyard Simulator, but the name kind of gave me a clue on what to expect here. You essentially hammer the hell out of ships to get metal that you can take back to your truck to scrap for cash.
You will use other tools here and there, but the hammer is your main tool. It can be satisfying to strip broken ships for everything it has, though the game doesn’t always want to work in your favour, the game can sometimes feel broken as you try and fail to do something simple like emptying all your steel into the truck or you’ll find parts of ships that are actually floating, so it’s a bit glitchy in its current state.
It did come out previously on PC over a year ago, so I was surprised to see it had these issues on console release. It’s a shame since I like the concept and even though the gameplay is repetitive, it can be satisfying to play.
The visuals are a bit of a mixed bag and the framerate seems to have a few issues. The audio is passable, but not much to write home about here. I didn’t experience any differences between the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions.
The Verdict
Ship Graveyard Simulator 2 feels very simplistic to play, which isn’t a bad thing. What is bad though is how broken it currently feels, Hopefully with some patches, it will improve and when it works it works well even with the core gameplay becoming repetitive quickly, but when it doesn’t work…you’ll be thinking of confining this one to the graveyard too.
