PS5 Review: Deep Beyond

Is there more beyond this walking sim?

Deep Beyond Is a first-person interactive thriller about a sea explorer and the mystery behind her father’s disappearance.

Walking simulators are nothing new, but there aren’t many that take place at sea. Deep Beyond takes this and runs with it in a thriller that lasts roughly 1-2 hours. It may not seem a lot and the puzzles are fairly easy,  but there are two different endings to accomplish if you want the full experience (and the Platinum trophy!)

The setting itself is nice, the story does a decent job and gets you across the finish line and the art style is simple, yet beautiful. I don’t see many games that look like this, so kudos to them for trying to make it stand out from the crowd.

The main problem with Deep Beyond is that it feels like most walking sims and doesn’t do anything to stand out apart from its visuals and setting. It’s definitely one of the more enjoyable ones though, I will say that. I never felt bored and enjoyed my time with it, but it’s one of those games that’s almost impossible to replay once you’ve done it.  The framerate never drops, the art style is charming and the soundtrack is also impressive. I can’t really fault it on a performance level.

The Verdict

Deep Beyond is one of the more enjoyable walking sims. While it doesn’t add anything new to the genre, it has a nice setting, interesting story and a great art style.
