Should you beware of games bearing gifts?
Enter the world of Achilles and experience the untold story of the Greek hero in two games – Achilles Legends Untold and Achilles Survivor. The first is a story-driven action RPG with exploration and epic battles, the second is a survival experience where strategy and fast-paced combat determine your fate.
I missed out on both the Achilles games when they came out, so it was nice to see them compile them together as a bundle both digitally and physically. Legends Untold is a more old-school hack-n-slash with an isometric view, while Survivor is a roguelike bullet hell experience with tower defence elements.
The two couldn’t be more different from each other in their game styles. The plus side of this is that if you get bored of playing a hack-n-slash, you can switch to the bullet hell game and vice versa. Survivor rated higher with critics and fans than Legends Untold, but I guess that’s just down to personal tastes. I actually preferred Legends Untold over Survivor, but that’s just me.
I guess I’m a sucker for old-school gameplay and Legends Untold has this in spades. It may not be the most visually stunning game for the PS5, but it gets the job done. Both games hold up well on their own terms, even if neither moves the needle for originality in either the bullet hell or hack-n-slash genres.
The Verdict
Achilles: Double Pack – Troy Edition grants you two decent titles based on the Greek legend. While each is incredibly different from each other, both are worth opening the gate in and letting that Trojan horse through.
