PlayStation VR Review: Rez Infinite

Rez gets the VR treatment…

I must confess, I actually haven’t played Rez before it’s PSVR outing. I never had a Dreamcast and I didn’t get round to downloading it for XBLA, so it was a whole new experience for me and what an experience it was…

I’ve seen footage of the older games, but nothing can quite prepare you for how surreal the game is, especially in this PSVR version. Not only does Rez Infinite contain a remastered version of the original game, but it also contains a whole new level called Area X which is impressive as well.

Rez itself is an odd game to even begin describing…you play in a simulation of cyberspace where you shoot firewalls, viruses and other obstacles for high-scores and to stop them from ejecting you from cyberspace. The game itself looks crazy but beautiful at the same time, either on VR or in 1080p…there’s not really any better way to experience Rez than this entry.

Controlling your viewpoint with the headset is a highlight and you do feel like you are in cyberspace here, it’s crazy but it’s also classic. It may be essentially a 1080P/VR upgrade to the Dreamcast original, but that just goes to show that Rez is nothing but a timeless classic that is almost immune to ageing.

The Verdict

Rez Infinite is an amazing 1080P/VR version of the original game, but it also contains a whole new level and playing it with PSVR feels like a whole new experience. It’s impossible to deny the power of Rez and there’s no better place to experience it than on PS4.
