PS5 Review: Stellar Blade x Goddess of Victory: Nikke

Is this DLC stellar?

Worlds collide in an epic cross-over of heroic proportions in this add-on expansion for Stellar Blade™ featuring GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE. The warrior Scarlet has arrived from Shift Up’s hit third-person shooter mobile app to challenge you in a one-on-one showdown for the ages – only by defeating this new Boss, can you claim a new costume, hairstyle and song for EVE as reward. Put your trigger finger to the test in sci-fi shooting range mini games, and visit a new shop owned by the GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE’s faithful robotic dog Volt – who sells a variety of themed outfits, items and cosmetics. Or take a break from the hectic action and enjoy a spot of fishing to see if you can reel in six collectible GODDESS OF VICTORY: NIKKE items.

I have to admit I was unaware of Goddess of Victory: Nikke but that’s because I’m not really a mobile gamer. So, this DLC is a bit niche compared to the Nier Automata DLC, but can it still deliver?

The DLC has a shooting range mini-game, a new boss to overcome as well as a new shop and fishing area, which all unlock new costumes and cosmetics. They are naturally related to the Goddess of Victory game which Shift Up is also responsible for. It makes sense for them to do a promotion like this to drum up attention for those like me unfamiliar with the mobile shooter.

The boss Scarlet is a challenge, but the fight itself is a memorable one. Shift Up have done well to deliver more than just a cosmetic add-on here but have given you content to unlock them. It would have been nice to have a few more trophies to unlock, but since the first DLC for Nier Automata didn’t have them I can’t say I was surprised not to see them here.

The Verdict

Regardless of whether you’ve played or even heard of Goddess of Victory: Nikke, this DLC is a worthy addition to Stellar Blade with its memorable boss fight and side content.
