Hidden Through Time 2: Myths & Magic is a game where you essentially look at a scene and try and click on the items listed at the bottom of the screen. These items are incredibly hard to find and some are hidden at different times/weather of the day which you can switch between with a tap of the Triangle button. The game starts out simple enough with just a handful of objects to locate, but eventually becomes a bigger checklist and even more obscure, tiny objects to find.

I hadn’t heard of Hidden Through Time but am seriously considering picking it up after my experience with the sequel. The campaign takes you through mythical times with Greek Gods, fighting off an evil wizard in a magical story, jamming in the 1980s and searching for treasure in a homage to The Arabian Nights. You will need to find a certain amount of objects in a level before it allows you to move to the next, so keep your eyes peeled and make sure to pay really close attention to the clues the game provides, although some of these are very cryptic.

It took me a few hours of screaming and pulling my hair to locate everything, but in the end I succeeded which was very satisfying, but I wanted more. Luckily the game has an online mode where you can either create or play other players’ creations. The interface is pretty simple to use and thanks to this, the possibilities are endless. I really hope they make a 3rd game now with other scenarios like sci-fi, for example.

The game does have a few performance issues when you zoom the map right out and try and navigate, but goes back to a solid framerate when you zoom back in. Loading times are mostly short but the game does sometimes look like it’s crashing when the level is loading, but it hasn’t actually happened during my time with it…so if you think the game is struggling here, don’t worry, it should load fine.

The Verdict

Hidden Through Time 2: Myths & Magic is a simple concept but one that works incredibly well. I was hooked from the first item I found and there’s endless content with the online mode. If you are looking for a chilled game where you can just go at your own pace, hunting down hidden items then this if for you.
