Should this doctor be struck off?
Gore Doctor is an immersive horror game set to unleash spine-chilling thrills on PS5 . You find yourself in the institute of a tormented doctor who, driven by desperation after losing his wife, descends into madness and becomes convinced that death is the only respite.
Gore Doctor tries to be an effective horror title and while it achieves this with its disturbing premise and creepy atmosphere, can it deliver a lethal dose of killer gameplay?
The answer is sadly, no. While it can deliver jump scares and shocking moments, it doesn’t hide the fact that the game has its share of problems. The AI is weak, combat is clunky and the whole game isn’t particularly long. It doesn’t help that the visuals look dated and there’s a few technical problems dotted around. Voice-acting is also poor and repetitive.
If you look at it as a horror game with a low-budget, then perhaps you can overlook these shortcomings…but the truth is that it just doesn’t nail any of the fundamentals you would expect.
The Verdict
Gore Doctor had potential with its premise and atmosphere, but it soon disappears with its uninspired gameplay, poor AI and technical problems.
