PS5 Review: Atomfall: Wicked Isle

Is this isle worth exploring?

Drawing on the folk horror elements of the game for inspiration, the story expansion is set on Midsummer Island. To cross to the island players must talk to the boat-keeper who can be found on the jetty in Wyndham Village. He will give you information about the island as well as your first Lead.

I reviewed Atomfall back in March and really enjoyed my time with it. I wanted more and luckily Rebellion have delivered that with their first story expansion in the form of the Wicked Isle DLC. It focuses more on folk horror and cults; it definitely reminded me of Wicker Man at times.

It’s a pretty solid piece of DLC. The great news is that there’s no level cap, so you can start it as soon as you pass through Slatten Dale, opening up to everyone regardless of where they are. If you’ve finished the game, you’ll need to load up an earlier save to access it though.

The new areas are well designed, while the new quests are also impressive. It doesn’t change the wheel so much as feel as a natural expansion of the experience, so if for whatever reason you didn’t like Atomfall to begin with, then Wicked Isle isn’t going to sway you. But I personally think you’d have to be crazy not to love the eerie British atmosphere going on here which is extended even more so with this DLC.

The Verdict

Wicked Isle does feel like a great expansion to Atomfall. It may seem a bit pricey but believe me when I say its worth every penny if you loved the base game. And if you haven’t picked it up yet, then this serves as a great add-on to an already superb game.

Score: 8.5
