Left 4 Squared
It came from space and ate our brains is a unique Arcade top-down shooter. Looking for addicting gameplay, four-player co-op mode, and tons of aliens to send into oblivion? You’ve come to the right place!
If you’ve ever played a co-op top-down shooter before, you’ll feel right at home with this. The game has a campaign, as well as a survival mode for those who want to test their mettle to see how long they can last. Essentially, the object of the game is simple…destroy all the aliens in your path and make your way to each safehouse along the way. The campaign only has a few levels, but they are challenging on your own, so you’ll be dependant on teammates to help you succeed.
This is however, part of the problem. The game does support co-op, but only locally. I mean it’s great to have it as an option, but not to include online is a travesty in my opinion. This game is screaming for online play and not everyone can get 3 friends or family members together to hunt down aliens, all I’m saying is that it would have been something great if it had online.
That’s not to say that the game itself isn’t addictive or fun with local co-op or even solo. I’ve had a good time playing through the levels, using the many weapons and upgrades to unleash hell upon the alien horde. It does have a good amount of replay value with the trophy list, which will be a bit of an undertaking.
The visual style is simplistic and blocky, almost like Minecraft to a degree. It’s still a nice and charming look and runs smoothly. The sound effects feel retro too, which is always a nice touch.
The Verdict
It came from space and ate our brains isn’t going to win any awards for originality, but the couch co-op experience is highly addictive and enjoyable from start to finish. If it had online play, the score would be so much higher.
