Xbox One Review: Katamari Damacy: Reroll

Gotta keep rolling?

The stop-at-nothing pushing prince is back and ready to reroll! When the King of All Cosmos accidentally destroys all the stars in the sky, he orders you, his pint-sized princely son, to put the twinkle back in the heavens above. Join the King and Prince of Cosmos on their wacky adventure to restore the stars now in full HD!

I’ve played a few Katamari Damacy games in the past and each time I’ve been more confused than the last. These games are just crazy from their art style and story to the controls and the art style. None of it makes a damn bit of sense…and that’s why it’s so fun. You have no idea how rolling around a ball gathering up junk is going to fix the stars that the King of All Cosmos has destroyed, but you “roll” with it anyway, see what I did there? I’ll get my coat…

This remake of the original PS2 classic hit Nintendo Switch back in 2018, so I’m not sure why it’s taken 2 years to get to Xbox One and PS4 but that aside, this is a nice remake with updated visuals and recreated cinematics in full HD. While there isn’t any new content, you get a lot of content for a £25 remake and it’ll definitely keep you baffled and entertained for a long time.

If there’s one criticism of this, it’s that the control scheme is a bit outdated and could have done with some quality-of-life update, it’s also a love it or loathe it type of game. It definitely won’t be for everyone thanks purely to the crazy nature of the game itself, but I personally think it deserves a chance.

The Verdict

While not adding any new content, Katamari Damacy Reroll is a faithful HD remake that still provides a great, crazy experience like no other in the industry.
