I still consider Oblivion to be a great RPG. I still have my Xbox 360 copy on my shelf and have replayed it countless times over the years. With its great cast of Sir Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean taking on key roles, plus the superb guild quests, I know I’m in the minority here…but I actually prefer it to Skyrim (Please don’t hate me). I love the Dark Brotherhood questline in particular.
The remaster has been rumoured for years, but shadow dropped out of nowhere after a few leaks surfaced. I haven’t played the game in a few years now but was able to remember a fair amount. The game has had a nice visual upgrade and a few quality-of-life changes like being able to sprint and the UI has been upgraded. The team at Virtuous have done a good job in retaining the feel of the original while making these small, subtle changes. It still has its buggy issues as all Bethesda games do, but now it looks and runs a hell of a lot better than the game did in 2006.
The Verdict
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered gives a nice lick of paint to the 2006 classic, while adding in some nice changes and gives me yet another excuse to go through this Bethesda great.
