Local News with Cliff Rockside is a strange game…it puts you behind the camera covering news stories for a streaming local news presenter. You will pan the camera between people and events in which you get ranked for it at the end of the segment. It feels like a comedic version of Pokémon Snap meets a visual novel.

That and a few puzzles/mini-games besides, there isn’t a whole lot more to the gameplay. It soon becomes routine and unless the humour lands particularly well for you, you may struggle to get to the finish line. I personally liked it, but know that humour is subjective so there’s a chance this may not tickle your funny bone.

The visuals take some getting used to, but I do like the art style overall. The soundtrack is decent and the framerate is solid throughout.

The Verdict

Local News with Cliff Rockside takes a simple idea and runs with it. It’s essentially a more interactive version of a visual novel game. Its comedy may not land for everyone, but if the humour clicks for you, then this is one story worth running.
