PS5 Review: Killing Floor 3

Should you delve to this killing floor for a 3rd time?

It’s 2091 and megacorp Horzine has produced the ultimate army: an obedient horde of bioengineered monstrosities called zeds. Now, only the rebel group Nightfall stands between these infernal creations and the future of humanity. Killing Floor 3 is the next installment in the legendary action/horror series. This intense FPS puts you in the boots of a Nightfall specialist joining forces with up to five teammates to battle waves of zeds, earn dosh, unlock skills, and build the ultimate arsenal.

It’s been a long time since Killing Floor 2 launched and from what I hear, the team at Tripwire is very different these days so it’s a bit of a leap of faith for those who have been looking forward to a third entry into the intense co-operative FPS. Can this sequel live up to the past title or should it have been left on the chopping block?

If you’ve played a past entry, then you’ll be right at home here. There are a few changes here and there, but mostly it’s still the Killing Floor experience that you are used to. Kill waves of the undead while upgrading, it has a smaller list of perks and weapons than before, but it feels more optimised in a sense. It won’t sway any that weren’t fans of the games before and it doesn’t take any big risks, but it’s a fairly decent sequel.

Is there more to come in terms of content? I would imagine so, so it feels like it might be too early to say that it can become stale quickly. I mean it does at the time of writing, but this could change considerably over the next few months, depending on what the content is and how frequent it is released.

The visuals are impressive and while I came across a few visual glitches here and there, it wasn’t anything game-breaking. Performance was mostly solid with only a few drops in framerate, but nothing a patch or two won’t sort. The sound design is also impressive with a decent soundtrack and voice-acting.

The Verdict

Killing Floor 3 doesn’t move the needle on the co-operative shooter, but it is still a decent entry in the franchise. While it doesn’t make many changes to the series, it still provides what you would expect it to and hopefully will continue to add more content over time.
