PS5 Review: New Super Lucky’s Tale

Is this the ultimate version of Super Lucky’s Tale?

This is the third version of Super Lucky’s Tale that I have reviewed. The original I reviewed for Xbox One here and it’s “New” version also on Xbox One here.

Join Lucky on his thrilling journey through the Book of Ages, a magical artifact that opens doors to amazing worlds. Meet new friends, explore exciting lands, and recover the missing pages from the evil sorcerer Jinx and his villainous family, the dreaded Kitty Litter.

6 years after New Super Lucky’s Tale launched for last generation consoles, another version emerges for today’s consoles. What can this PS5 version deliver that its PS4 or Xbox One counterpart didn’t?

The PS5 version has an upgrade option so it’ll only set you back a short price if you wish to have a native PS5 version, it also supports your old saves. It will allow up to 120 FPS, 4K support, faster loading times and haptic feedback support for the DualSense. Visuals seem sharper and more colourful overall, though actual quality of life changes to gameplay is absent.

I honestly wasn’t expecting anything like that, especially for the low upgrade price. It’s hard to recommend for those enhancements alone, but there is another trophy list up for grabs here, even if you have to redo certain elements if you are importing your PS4 save. It’s a bit confusing but at least you won’t have to redo everything. It’s definitely the version to pick up if you haven’t got around to playing this cute platformer before, that’s for sure.

The Verdict

New Super Lucky’s Tale for PS5 is still the great, cute platformer we all know but now it runs and looks better than ever. It may have missed a trick by not having any QoL changes, but for the upgrade price it was highly unlikely to have any. Definitely worth getting if you missed out on it before or if you want a second Platinum.
