PS4 Review: Stories Untold

Stranger Things – Text Adventure Edition?

Stories Untold is a compilation tape of four experimental text adventures, including a remaster of the original episode The House Abandon.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect with a game like Stories Untold which is essentially 4 text adventures but done with a twist. For example you’ll be playing the first game putting commands in but viewing the text adventure as your character looks at their 80s style monitor and the other things around the room that also give off serious 80s vibes. Each of the 4 stories are well thought out and they all build to the nice twist that works really well.

It has vibes of Stranger Things and The Twilight Zone with a hint of John Carpenter. It’ll only take you a few hours to get through the game and there isn’t any real reason to revisit it afterwards, but it’s definitely memorable enough to warrant playing. The visual style is a nice change of pace and suddenly makes text adventures relevant again.

The Verdict

Stories Untold is only a few hours long but impressive for a compilation of text adventures with a great twist and 80s vibes. It may not be the most original of stories but it’s definitely compelling enough to stay with you long after finishing it.
