PS3 Review: The Wolf Among Us: Episode 5 – Cry Wolf

The Crooked Man delivers a chilling finale…

The last episode of The Wolf Among Us set us up to a showdown with the Crooked Man, the corrupt loan shark and gangster-type boss that pretty much runs Fabletown’s underworld. I was unsure what to expect to be honest from the finale, especially since the killer’s identity was revealed within the first 5 minutes of the episode…don’t worry, I won’t tell you who it is, but it does make sense quickly and suddenly it’s hard to see how it could have been anyone else.

The episode has Bigby try to take down the Crooked Man once and for all, but first must deal with the killer in what is a gripping and quite sad sequence. Then he heads to a steel mill to do battle with Bloody Mary in which is the most memorable, choreographed fight scene I’ve seen in a game. Bigby seems completely outmatched against the dozens of copies that Bloody Mary throws at him, before Bigby pulls it out of the bag in spectacular style.

The episode then gives you the choice to either kill Crooked Man or bring him in to trial for his crimes. I chose to do the latter and he tried to weasel out of it so much, constantly using his silver tongue to justify his actions and secure his position in Fabletown. You ultimately decide his fate and I’m sure it will have implications in Season 2, but more twists ensure that the mystery is far from over…

Ultimately, the finale does deliver on concluding Telltale’s best season ever. It never slows down and the choices you make will test you, do you hear out the Crooked Man or simply hurl him down the Wishing Well? These choices are tough and I don’t envy you making them, I sure found it difficult to decide what was best for Fabletown. Hopefully my choices will impact Season 2 in a major way and I can’t wait to see what Telltale do with it…

The Verdict
Cry Wolf is the best season finale that Telltale have done yet. It provides non-stop revelations, shocking moments, a breathtaking fight sequence and twists that will no doubt impact what happens in Season 2. Now, Telltale…just announce it already!
