Exclusive Metal Gear Solid V Interview: Stefanie Joosten (Quiet)

Quiet actress answers our pressing questions!

We have been incredibly fortunate to get an interview with the voice and motion-capture actress for Quiet in MGS V: The Phantom Pain, the lovely Stefanie Joosten! Thank you for this Q&A!

Q) How were you approached to be look and voice of Quiet?
At first I received a call from my agency about an audition for a video game. They didn’t say what game it was for, but they were looking for motion capture actors. I did the audition for the part of a mysterious female assassin who turned out to be Quiet, and was lucky enough to get the part! I also was asked to do a 3D scan, which Quiet’s design would be based on.

Q) What did the motion capture involve? Was it uncomfortable?

The motion capture suit was a little hard to get into and out of. Once you’re wearing it you can’t really go to the bathroom unless you take it completely off again. (Laughs) Other than that the mo-cap sessions were all a lot of fun. There were a lot of challenges, like using certain weapons correctly, but I was able to learn a lot while doing it.

Q) You’ve inspired cos-players like no other character in gaming before, have you ever tried cos-playing as someone before?

Actually I have, but it was years ago when I was still a teenager. It was pretty low-quality so I’m a bit embarrassed about it. (Laughs) I have seen pictures of girls cosplaying as Quiet and I’m really amazed at how spot-on a lot of them are! They really are some of the most devoted fans I’ve seen.

Q) Would you consider ever starring in another game?

I would definitely love to work on another game! I mostly do modeling and acting work, but working on Metal Gear Solid is one of the best experiences I have ever had. I also love working with people who have similar interests, and since I’m a gamer myself I think I easily click with people working in the game industry.

Q) How have you coped with the attention you’ve earned as Quiet?

I must say that being in MGSV has really changed my life. It is very strange to suddenly have this many people following me on my social media, but I also think Metal Gear fans are one of the best people to be followed by. Mostly everyone is very polite and supportive.

Q) I’ve seen you post photos on your Twitter in wedding dresses and said it was for a photo shoot to not make anyone panic, but is there a special someone in your life?

No, unfortunate not. I guess I’m too much in love with my work right now. (Laughs)

Q) I’d never forgive myself if I never asked from the fans, but did they make you wear the Quiet costume ever or was it all digital?

Sorry to disappoint you, but I have never worn it. (Laughs) The costume design is all done digitally as far as I know, so it’s not necessary for the model to wear it during the scanning process.

Q) Finally I’d like to ask what’s next for you, what you see yourself doing next – another game, more modeling or commercials? What would you like to do next?

Right now I’m still doing modeling work as well, but I’m also working on developing myself more as an actress. I would love to work on films and more games in the future!

Thank you once again for the interview and good luck in the future!
