Hardware Review: Plantronics RIG Gaming Headset with Custom Mixer

How does the Rig headset hold up to other headsets?

I’ve been lucky enough to test out the Plantronics RIG headset with custom mixer that allows you to do a whole number of things including being able to play games with brilliant sound, talk online with the mic and even take phone calls without disrupting your game. The only drawback is all the cables that would be plugged in and if you haven’t got a lot of room to manoeuvre then it can become awkward, other than this it’s a top quality headset that is compatible with pretty much every device you can think of and is a steal at roughly £80.

Having said that, there are other headsets that are wireless and have great sound for around the same price. But they don’t have the mixer that connects to your other devices, which is the real selling point. Below is a list of features for the headset:

• Mixer connects and mixes mobile phone with game audio
• Interchangeable gaming boom mic and inline mic
• Connects to PC/Mac, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, smartphones, and tablets
• Three EQ profiles: Pure. Intensify. Seismic.
• 40mm speaker drivers

The Verdict

Overall, I think the Plantronics RIG headset is great value for money and I’d easily recommend it as a worthy addition to any gamer’s accessory collection. It may have its issues and the instructions on setting it up may not be the most straightforward, but the result is fantastic once you’ve got it all hooked up.
