Review: Taskmaster – The Board Game

Can you win the Taskmaster trophy?

Based on the BAFTA winning TV show hosted by the mountainous Greg Davies and his assistant Little Alex Horne, Taskmaster the Board Game brings the very essence of this popular show to the comfort of your own home. Compete with your friends and family in a series of ludicrous tasks to be crowned Taskmaster Champion. Judge or be judged. It’s time to summon your inner Taskmaster. Contents: Game board, rules sheet, scoreboard playing pieces, wipe-clean pen, Taskmaster trophy and 200 task cards, including video tasks from Alex Horne himself.

We don’t usually review board games, but I had to make an exception for Taskmaster. I love the show and Greg Davies is a legend. I was intrigued to see how they would make a board game suitable when the show can ask the most obscure things, so how did it do?

You will need at least 3 people to play and you’ll be given tasks such as drawing certain items or raiding your kitchen for an item in the fastest time. There are 200 tasks, so those are just a small example. It really depends on your own circumstances and surroundings if you are able to pull off certain tasks, but with such a vast amount of them, you can easily skip or adjust the ones that aren’t suitable.

It even comes with a miniature trophy of Greg’s head, which I love. There are also video tasks that you can access using the QR code on the box. Me and my family had a great time with this one and while we couldn’t complete every single task, we did a fair amount of them successfully and had a damn good laugh doing it.

The Verdict

While not all tasks might be do-able due to whatever your living situation or time of day you play, a big chunk of them are. They are inventive and creative, I would expect nothing less from Little Alex Horne. Highly recommended to fans of the show or those looking for something a little different from their traditional board games.
