PS5 Review: Forever Ago

No, I’m not crying, there’s just something in my eye…

Following a tragic stroke of fate, Alfred embarks on a journey north in search of redemption. In this single-player road trip adventure, you’ll travel to beautiful places, capture memories with your camera, meet interesting characters, and even make some new friends. Experience a nuanced and heartfelt story about broken dreams, loss, and regret – but also courage, hope, and true friendship. Learn about the stories, beliefs and struggles of characters you meet along the way, brought to life by renowned voice actors. Explore beautiful environments, ranging from serene forest trails to dusty barrens sweltering in the desert sun. Examine and interact with objects to learn about your surroundings and the people living there. Play through a lifetime of love as Alfred with your sweetheart Audrey, experiencing a true love that transcends time.

Forever Ago is one of those touching, meaningful, emotional games that hits you right in the feels. It has beautiful and sad moments scattered throughout to the point you’ll be a bit of an emotional wreck at the end of it.

Puzzles are mostly handled by using your camera to solve environmental puzzles. The rest of the gameplay is handled by moving Alfred around and interacting with characters he meets on his journey. It’s one of those games where I don’t really want to divulge too much as to spoil anything, it just has to be experienced first-hand without spoilers. I wouldn’t even look at the trophy list if I were you, though you will need to grab two sets of collectibles in one playthrough for some of them so trophy hunters should air on the side of caution here.

Visually, the game has a charming, animated look to it. The surroundings are beautiful; the framerate is solid throughout. The voice-acting is impressive, and the soundtrack is nothing short of brilliant with some great tracks, both catchy and emotional scattered through the experience.

The Verdict

Forever Ago is one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. It brings you sadness and joy throughout and is hands down the most memorable indie game I’ve played this year. A must have.

Score: 9.0
