In Space, no-one can hear you 3D Print…
Pragmata is a unique, sci-fi action-adventure game from Capcom. Follow Hugh, a member of an ill-fated investigation team, and Diana, a young android, as they navigate a lunar facility taken over by rogue AI in search of a way to Earth. At a remote lunar research facility, humanity discovers a new ore—one that, when properly refined, can be used to create almost anything using 3D printers. When the facility suddenly falls silent, Hugh and his team are dispatched to investigate…but then disaster strikes. Hugh is saved by Diana, a lone android wandering the complex. The two of them must join forces to find a way off the moon while working their way through an AI-controlled facility bent on stopping them. Half-realized replicas of human civilization sprawl across the lunar surface, while inside, only scattered traces of the facility’s vanished inhabitants remain. What buried truth awaits at the end of Hugh and Diana’s journey? Guide both Hugh as he moves, shoots, and jumps, and Diana, who hacks at the same time. Enjoy a fresh, new blend of gameplay in this truly unique system that will push your brain to its limits.
It seems lately Capcom are on a bit of a winning streak, Resident Evil Requiem was a hit and now they’ve launched a brand-new IP in Pragmata. If you’ve ever played Dead Space or Death Stranding, then you’ll get familiar vibes here. The game acts as a sci-fi survival game with AI robots hunting you down, but you have an android of your own who can hack enemies and objects around the lunar facility.
These take the form of an on-screen mini-game where you have to connect a maze path from one end to the other using either of the main buttons, which can cause damage to the enemy and make your weapons more effective against them, or move objects around to clear a path and other interesting ways. There are plenty of weapons and items to upgrade, as well as collectibles scattered around the station.
The story itself is gripping from beginning to end, featuring everything from AI, 3D printers and some interesting moments between Hugh and Diana. The voice-acting is superb, and the game looks absolutely stunning with it’s highly details visuals and character models are jaw-droppingly good. The soundtrack is impressive as well with great atmospheric tracks along the way. The game has a steady framerate throughout, and I didn’t encounter any glitches during my playthrough.
The Verdict
Pragmata was a risk for Capcom as a new IP, but one that’s paid off brilliantly. There are plenty of sci-fi horrors out there, but Pragmata takes what made Dead Space great and adds its own personal flavour on it. Definitely not one to be overlooked.
