Is this a platformer worth Ki-lling for?

Evergate is a 2D puzzle platformer that got a Day 1 update for Xbox Series X, I’ve played both versions and while the load times are next to nothing and it runs at 4K/60FPS, there isn’t exactly much of a visual improvement compared to the X1 version. That aside, lets look at the platformer itself.
Evergate is a challenging, yet charming platformer. You jump as Ki, activating a laser called a Soulflame to target at crystals and fire to propel you in the direction you need to go. It takes a while to get used to and perfecting the timing to reach the right level of propulsion and also making sure it’s in just the right position can be cumbersome, but it is rewarding when you do it just right.
The art style is reminiscent of the Ori games and looks superb, running at a solid framerate without any drops and next to no load times between dying/resetting. Evergate is one of those tough platformers that people seem to be craving these days and while it isn’t as hard as the likes of Super Meat Boy, it’s still up there as one of the tougher platformers out there.
The Verdict
Evergate is a decent and challenging platformer that looks amazing and is definitely worth checking out for fans of the genre and those love the art style of games like Ori. The only thing that lets it down is just how accurate you need to be with your Soulflame to ensure success.
