Xbox One Review: Voodoo Vince Remastered

Vince gets the remaster treatment…

Voodoo Vince was a platformer that released on the original Xbox in 2003, so 14 years later it gets the remaster treatment. But was it worth remaking in the first place? I never played the original so I can’t really compare it to how much is truly different from the original, but it’s a charming platformer nonetheless.

You play as Vince, who you’ve probably figured out is a Voodoo doll that’s come to life. The plot is a bit thin on the ground, but I’d expect nothing less from a platformer like this. As I said, I didn’t play the original, but I can see it’s quite dated in terms of visuals and gameplay…that’s not to say it’s a terrible game, it’s far from it actually…but you can see that some will clearly overlook it because of this.

It’s a shame really, since the game itself is actually great fun. Sure, it’s never going to be up there with the likes of Mario, Banjo-Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee or Ratchet and Clank, but it’s still highly enjoyable.

The Verdict

Simply put, this is the best way to experience the game if you missed out on it back in 2003. If you bought the original and want to relive it, then this is worth picking up. The good news is that the game is cheap at just over £12, making it an even easier decision to pick up.
