Xbox One Review: Victor Vran: Overkill Edition

A Diablo contender?

Victor Vran: Overkill Edition is pretty much the complete edition of the game with all DLC included after it’s original release in 2015. I actually missed out on this the first time around, so it was good to see what all the fuss is about.

At first glance, you can see it clearly takes its inspiration from Diablo with it’s top-down camera, combat and so on. While it’s not going to take Diablo 3’s crown, it’s still more than a worthy contender and a nice alternative to it. As far as a dungeon crawler goes, Victor Vran is a bit more simplistic in it’s design to the competition, but still provides a meaningful experience.

Being able to play online with friends is also great fun and while there are 90 achievements to earn, the game is so enjoyable that it won’t feel like a chore, even if it will take you ages and ages to get your 1000 gamerscore.

Visually, the game is pretty and has nicely detailed environments. There are some framerate issues and screen tearing, but nothing major. There has been times that the game has locked up and crashed on me, which I hear is a bug in the Xbox One version…but oddly enough, not the PS4 version. I’m sure it’ll get patched eventually, but it is still really frustrating. The game features an amazing soundtrack with great voice-acting. Something rare these days and something I wasn’t really expecting here.

The Verdict

Victor Vran: Overkill Edition is a great dungeon crawler that can hold it’s head high as it stands next to the likes of Diablo. It’s great fun and will take you hours and hours to finish, the only thing that holds it back is the freezing issue on the Xbox One version…which hopefully will be patched soon.
