Trivial Pursuit Live! 2 is the sequel to the game of the same name and naturally based on the world-famous general knowledge quiz. I didn’t play the original Trivial Pursuit Live! game so assumed it would follow the traditional pattern of the game where you play for slices till you get the whole pie. While that is true to a degree, this version seems to give you slices depending on when you hit certain scores instead of for each specific subject, so you don’t need to be a jack-of-all-trades and have a slice for each category.

The rounds are done differently too, in some cases you’ll take turns selecting answers on-screen that are either the right/wrong answers to a specific subject and so on. It’s more fast-paced than traditional Trivial Pursuit and it works well overall, its just hard to actually think of it as a game with the name attached since it doesn’t follow the traditional rules.

You can play online with players or solo against AI, but the best is playing with people next to you through local competitive play. The questions are nicely varied, and the different rounds do mix things up nicely, though it’s hard to tell if it has the legs to last for long for online play unless it gets updated questions via updates since hardcore players will end up learning the answers if they get repeated too often. To be fair though, I actually have yet to see a repeated question…

The visuals are basic, but they do the job, you can customise your character, though the options are rather limited in this. The voice-acting is cheesy in the way of the game show host variety, but it’s not awful. The framerate didn’t dip, and load times were minimal.

The Verdict

While not following the traditional Trivial Pursuit rules, Trivial Pursuit Live! 2 is a nice party game quiz that is enjoyable with friends either at home or online. It’s hard to tell how long the replay value is but currently I’m still having fun playing a full game with my partner at home and I think I will for quite a while yet.
