Singstar’s 3rd PS3 Volume is a hit
SingStar is back on PlayStation 3, with an all-new track list that features such superstars as Dizzee Rascal, Queen, the Ting Tings and, for the first time, Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie and Barry Manilow. Whether you’re into ‘Killer Queen’ or ‘Billie Jean’, there’s something for all musical tastes. SingStar Vol.3 is packed with online features, including direct access to the SingStore, offering hundreds of extra tracks, with more being added all the time. And joining in with the buzzing SingStar community couldn’t be easier; you can capture your best performances with PlayStation Eye and share them with the world via My SingStar Online.
This week has been a music-spectacular. First I reviewed Lips, then SingStar ABBA and now it’s time for SingStar Vol 3…aren’t you lucky? While I hated the past game as it was dedicated to a band I don’t like, I’m pleased to say that Vol 3 has some great songs and could be worth picking up, let’s take a look at the list:

So as you can see, there are classics both old and new to sing to. My favourites are Viva La Vida, Space Oddity and Say What You Want. The others are pretty good too; it all comes down to your own taste. What I like is how it can accommodate everyone’s taste by having a few songs that most will like and not a specific genre or band to dampen things down.
Vol 3 still has the same interface as the other Volumes and sadly, the videos are once again in standard definition. It’s not a huge complaint since the package is a bargain of songs to sing to, it’s just worth pointing out that maybe it’s time they upgraded them for those who have HDTV’s. The microphone for SingStar is a lot more precise than is given credit for. There is no way I can hit those high notes and the game lets you know it! While with Lips, the game lets you have it for even pushing the mic against your speakers…which SingStar doesn’t, believe me…I’ve tried.
The Verdict
SingStar Vol 3 isn’t a new game; it’s merely an add-on with a bunch of new songs. The songs however are great and worth every penny. You won’t find these songs on the SingStar Store, so you are forced to buy the disc for the tracks…which is wrong in a way, but it’s still a bargain.
