Nintendo Switch Review: Cat Quest

A purrfect adventure?

Cat Quest is an open world RPG set in the pawsome world of cats! In search of your catnapped sister you pounce into the massive continent of Felingard — a world crafted in the style of overworld maps of yore and purrrring with cat-tastic characters, stories, and puns! Leap into a grand adventure in purrsuit of the evil Drakoth and your catnapped sister! Explore Felingard’s huge overworld map, risk life and limb delving into dungeons for epic loot, and lend a paw to a furry cast of characters in a flurry of side quests.

Cat Quest was a bit of a surprise for me, I honestly didn’t know what to expect from this action RPG with cats and plenty of cat puns, but it turned out to be something quite special and even though it’s a little on the short side, it remains a must-have for Switch owners.

The game has this old-school style in its combat and RPG elements, but it also feels fresh and unique. Of course, being on Switch gives it a nice advantage to play it on the TV or on the go, which comes in handy with this bite-sized adventure. The cartoon style is also a great look and fits well with the theme of the game, while the visuals are charming and the game runs at a steady framerate.

My only criticism of Cat Quest has to be it’s lifespan, like I said it’s fairly short…which isn’t great for any RPG. Having said that, even though it has little replay value, it is highly memorable.

The Verdict

Cat Quest is a mix of classic and fresh RPG ideas that blend together well, along with the cat comedy. I just wish it was a bit longer.
