E3 2016: Sony Press Briefing Round-Up

We look back at perhaps Sony’s greatest E3 showing…

It was always going to be tough for Sony to follow last year’s E3, especially with the Final Fantasy 7 announcement and the reality that The Last Guardian wasn’t dead. Fast-forward 12 months and they did just that…

The first game shown was the latest God of War, called…God of War. Kratos is a lot older and is teaching his son how to hunt a deer before being attacked by a number of monsters. I can imagine that we’ll probably be playing as the kid more than Kratos, but at least they didn’t just reboot the series and make Kratos a punk teenager…

We got treated to a closer look at Horizon: Zero Dawn, which looks even more amazing as it did last year. Then came out PSVR…

We got announcements of a Battlefront VR mission, Batman Arkham VR game, CoD and Final Fantasy XV support. But it was surely Capcom’s Resident Evil 6 reveal that many will still remember. A truly first-person Resident Evil, set in a dilapidated mansion, with VR support and has a demo on the Playstation Store NOW. Definitely a lot of P.T/Silent Hills themes going on here, but that’s no bad thing.

Crash Bandicoot also got revived from the dead. His first 3 games will be remastered for the PS4 and is due to release next year. While, Insomniac have picked up the reins of the Spider-Man series in what looks like the best thing to happen to the series since Spider-Man 2.

Hideo Kojima made his presence known by unveiling his latest game, Death Stranding…starring none other than good friend Norman Reedus. The trailer didn’t give much away in terms of story or gameplay, but was mad as hell and typical of Kojima-san. Still, can’t wait to play it…just as soon as Norman finds his pants…

The show ended on a game shown earlier, “Days Gone” which looks a cross between Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead. A very strong way to end the show.

A strong showing for Sony, who chose not to give any details on pricing or release date for the PS4 Neo. It’s a gamble that paid off as they were able to show some truly amazing and groundbreaking games, and that’s all that matters.
