The Wolf Among Us has to be one of my gaming highlights of 2014; I’ve loved each episode and replayed them more than 3 times, trying to see the alternatives to the decisions made and nabbed plenty of achievements/trophies in the process. The Xbox One version doesn’t contain anything new, but it does improve the overall performance of the game with a smoother framerate, crisper visuals and smaller load times. But what else is there?

Well, besides a whole new set of achievements…. (Thank you, Telltale!) There really isn’t anything new to the package. That said, I did come across a few bugs during my playthrough on this version that I didn’t on the PS3, essentially it would load up and play a cutscene for you to respond to, only for all 4 choices to be blank and when pressed, the game would do nothing. Luckily a quick exit and a reload of the chapter solved this, but I did have to do it more than once which is worrying.

If you missed out on The Wolf Among Us the first time around, then make sure you get it for the newer systems…the animation is so much more detailed, Fabletown looks more believable than it did before, but if you’ve already played it then there’s no reason to revisit Season One for anything other than another Platinum Trophy or 1000 Gamerscore.

I was really impressed with the whole series from beginning to end and can’t wait to see what will happen to Fabletown in Season Two because of the choices I’ve made. I did make different choices on my Xbox One playthrough, so it’ll be interesting to go through the next season to see what happens…

The Verdict

Like I’ve said, the next-gen versions of The Wolf Among Us look crisper, more detailed and the animation seems more fluid than on PS3/360, but it does have the odd glitch which is unfortunate. Other than that, it’s the same game so I’d welcome newcomers to try it on the newest hardware, while I can only recommend it to those who already played it before if they want Trophies or Gamerscore.
