Preview: We Sing Encore (Wii)

How is the Wii-karaoke sequel looking?

Last week I took a trip to the Lucky Voice karaoke bar in London to try out the sequel to We Sing, We Sing Encore. I tried a few songs solo, but then got put into a group of 4 as we tackled some of the classic songs like Ruby by Kaiser Chiefs, Virtual Insanity by Jamiroquai and I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers.

The 40 songs announced so far are:

N Dubz – I Need You
Baddiel and Skinner & The Lightning Seeds – Three Lions

Each song is accompanied by its own music video with a few exceptions due to licensing. Songs like What Becomes of the Broken Hearted and Sweet Home Alabama’s music videos are missing. It isn’t a huge problem and I personally had a blast belting out these classics with others, even though I’ve never sang outside the shower before!  The game has plenty of modes like versus and even a mode where part of the song’s lyrics or music goes missing for a brief period, like the game show “Don’t Forget the Lyrics”. There’s also a mode that teaches you how to practise certain pitches through 30 lessons, they start out easy but get progressively harder…it’s a nice tool for those wanting to trying to hit high or low notes.

The only downside is that the microphones we used weren’t wireless and I don’t think there are any that you could use, unless I’m mistaken. The ones we used were connected to the Wii via USB, but on the plus side…I came out on top on quite a few of the versus rounds! Some might question wherever to get a karaoke game that doesn’t support DLC, but the line-up is decent for those who don’t have a PS3/360.

Towards the end of the event, we dressed in ridiculous wigs and played with some props. There’s a contest to judge the best on the website here, those who vote can be win a copy of the game! So don’t forget who sent you…

As a whole, We Sing Encore is looking set to please the Wii audience with a great karaoke game. I look forward to taking it for a full ballad soon!

  1. God i remember Gloria Gaynor very well and what a outstanding vocalist. I Will Survive helped me get through a bad break up and years later he came back looking to get back together and I told him Oh well now go… I will survive.
