Lips takes you back to the 80s…
Ah, the 80s. A time famous for spandex and bad hair. Now I was born towards the end of the decade, I do know a lot of these songs and although some aren’t as good today, Lips: I Love The 80s will appeal to anyone who loves songs from that era.

I can’t claim to be a huge fan of all these songs, but a few choice ones like Gold, Tainted Love, Roxanne, Relax and Rio are ones that I listen to often. It would have been nice to see some songs from Whitesnake like Here I Go Again and they aren’t available to download, so I wonder what is going on there? Well, Is This Love is available for Lips: Party Classics, but not Here I Go Again…which is odd.
If you have played a Lips game before, you’ll know exactly what to expect. The menus, interface and goal is identical. If you haven’t then essentially its easy karaoke but you can shake the mic at specific points to gain more points and make your avatar dance. You build up a power meter which you can unleash for extra multipliers by also shaking the remote, so you have to be careful when to shake it.
It’s not a bad line-up of songs, all the classics from the 80s are there…at least, the ones that I remember. There may be some missing that you were expecting, but the good thing is that they are probably available as DLC, or will be at some point down the line, and with the rate they are bringing out further games, your favourite songs are bound to end up on Lips at some point…although I do wonder about the specialist SingStar games like Queen, Take That and ABBA. Does SingStar have exclusivity to these songs or can Lips eventually get them? Time will tell…
The Verdict
Lips: I Love The 80s is full of classic songs for those fans of the era. While it won’t appeal to all, there are some great tracks here and the library of Lips keeps on growing. The more songs the better, I say. Although a longer break between disc based versions couldn’t hurt…
